Red Sprite Winterberry (Ilex verticillata 'Red Sprite') is a female variety of the species which requires a male selection of the same species growing nearby in order to set fruit.

While the Jim Dandy variety is the best male match for this selection, Male Raritan Chief & Apollo varieties are also within the pollination range.

Primary features are ornamental berries for bold winter interest. North American Native, Tolerates Road Salt, Deer resistant, and Bird Friendly Food Source. Year-round Interest.

Performs well in problem areas. A slow grower, and under ideal conditions has a life expectancy of 40 years or more.

Ilex verticillata 'Red Sprite'
A natural native dwarf deciduous female Holly.
As the name suggest vivid red berries on leafless branches brighten the landscape in the winter season.
Requires a male pollenizer for a lovely winter berry set. Jim Dandy Holly is a good male match.
Excellent for Accent, Boarder, Hedges, Mass Plantings, Wet areas,  general landscape/garden use.
